The purpose of the newly estab- lishedaward is tohonor retireeswho, in the eyes of their colleagues, do the most to developa foreignaffairs constituency intheir area of residence. Through this newaward program, AFSAseeks to recognize Foreign Service retireeswhovoluntarily continue to support and explainAmerican diplomacy after they retire from active U. S. govern- ment service. In addition to Behoteguy, a number of otherAFSAretireeswill receive the award during 2003. The first award was presented to Behoteguy at a Foreign Service Retirees Association luncheon in Bradenton, Fla. on Jan. 24 by AFSA Communications Director Thomas Switzer. The awardwas given in recognition of his more than 25 years of outstanding volunteer service in the Sarasota area. RetirementdoesnotdescribeBehoteguy’s vigorous lifestyleof recent decades.
