Willis Jr. recounted a memorable interaction he had with one of FrancesWillis’ for- mer colleagues, George GriŸn, who worked with Frances in Sri Lanka and came to the market specifically to get his copy of the book signed. I was young and heard that Frances was strict, but I was looking forward to working with her. Colleen Fallon- Lenaghan replaces John Long as AFSA’s Labor Management counselor. Colleen served previously as an AFSA sta“ attorney from 1992 to 1998, when she relo- cated to Michigan. As part of the AFSA labor management team during that time, she assisted in the negotiation of collective bargaining agree- ments for Foreign Service employees in the Department of State, USAID, FAS and FCS. She also represented Foreign Service employees in matters ranging from disciplinary issues to security clearance investigations. Colleen is a native of Pittsburgh and earned her law degree from Duquesne Univer- sity. AFSA also welcomes Jason Snyder as the new Labor Manage- ment Assistant. He recently received his Ph.D. in inter- national law with an emphasis on human rights from the National Uni- versity of Ireland, Galway. Jason will be focusing on constituents in our bargaining units. A native of Kentucky, Jason formerly contributed to The Santiago Times, covering labor and human rights issues in South America. Most recently, he worked in labor relations in Hawaii and continues to follow labor and human rights issues globally. n Colleen Fallon- Lenaghan Jason Snyder MOVEMENT ON CAREER AMBASSADOR CONF I RMAT I ONS Over the past many months, AFSAhas made consistent e“orts on Capitol Hill on behalf of the career ambassadorial nominees awaiting U.S. Senate confirmation. AFSAoŸcials and sta“ have met with U.S. senators and their sta“s to emphasize the critical role chiefs of mission play overseas. Following the midterm elections, the lame-duck Senate has been clearing the docket of backlogged ambassadorial nominations. In November, it confirmed the appointments of 21 long-waiting career Foreign Service nominees. In early December the Senate also confirmed two controversial political appointee nominees, soap opera producer Colleen Bell for Hungary and political consultant Noah Mamet for Argentina. NEWS BRIEF Retired FSO Allen Hansen (left) joined retired USAID FSO Stephen Grant (right) at the Book Market to help set up and run his table. Grant was selling his recent book, Collecting Shakespeare: The Story of Henry and Emily Folger , included in the November 2014 FSJ , as well as his previously published works.
