The Foreign Service Journal, March 2021
THE FOREIGN SERVICE JOURNAL | MARCH 2021 11 Seeking FS Family Stories, Memorabilia I have so admired the FSJ ’s digital archive special collections, in particular the section dedicated to the stories of For- eign Service families. Congratulations on bringing to life the contributions of these unofficial diplomats. These contributions are precisely the subject of my Una Chapman Cox Fellow- ship. I am seeking stories and photos/ videos of memorabilia from your family’s life in the Foreign Service for inclusion in a digital multimedia exhibit that will go live in summer 2021. My aim is to showcase the contribu- tions of families as “diplomats behind the scenes,” to reveal and record their com- pelling and challenging journeys. Souve- nirs may include invitations, postcards, scrapbooks, paintings, drawings, sculpture, jewelry, textiles, costumes, musical instru- ments, videos, photos and other tangible items that bring to life the contributions of Foreign Service families. I welcome receiving photos/videos of these mementos. Please share this invitation widely with other Foreign Service friends and col- leagues to ensure an inclusive and diverse representation of the Foreign Service experience. I can be reached at uccfellow@gmail. com and look forward to hearing from you! Claire Smolik FSO Washington, D.C. n Share your thoughts about this month’s issue.
