Following discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1954, he attended the Wood- rowWilson School of International Af- fairs at Princeton University, receiving a master’s degree in public and interna- tional affairs in 1956. He entered the Foreign Service that same year and served as a career diplomat for more than three decades, with overseas post- ings in Algeria, Belgium, Brazil, Jordan, Morocco, Switzerland, Turkey and Yemen. He also served at the U.S. Mis- sion to the United Nations in New York. He retired in 1986 and lived in Washington, D.C., until his death. He was a member of the Tangier Ameri- can Legation Museum and endowed the chair of the Edward Keller Profes- sorship of North Africa and Middle East at Tufts University. Mr. Keller was married to Sylvia Keller-Egli from 1960 to 1966; the marriage ended in divorce. Mr. Keller is survived by J. Waltan Santos, his partner of 30 years. Philinda C. Krieg , 91, wife of re- tired FSO William L. Krieg, died on April 8 in Sarasota, Fla. Born in Maplewood, N.J., on Sept. 2, 1917, she was the daughter of John W. Campbell and Dorothy Harrison Campbell. She grew up in New Jer- sey and attended Swarthmore Col- lege, where she majored in French. After spending two summers at the University of Mexico, she went to Paris in the summer of 1939, planning to study at the Sorbonne. The out- break of war made this impossible, but she elected to stay in Paris and got a job working at the American Library. Years afterward she recalled her agita- tion as she watched German troops marching down the Champs Elysee. At the end of June 1941, she was forced to evacuate Paris when the U.S. consulate and all American institutions were closed. She traveled to Lisbon, where she obtained a clerical position in the consulate general. While on a tour of Lisbon nightclubs she met a handsome young FSO named William Krieg.
