In the foreground, Huacheng Square, the largest city square in Guangzhou, is decorated with flowers and the auspicious color red wishing passersby prosperity in the new year. In the background is Canton Tower, the fifth-tallest freestanding structure in the world at 604 meters (1,982 feet). The photograph is captured at the southern end of Huacheng Square facing south. The Canton Tower is approximately half a mile away, with the Pearl River being the primary barrier between the two landmarks. n Alex Litichevsky joined the Foreign Service in 2012.
