His last posting was as interim chargé d’affaires in Vi- entiane from October through De- cember 1993. In 1993, Mr. Wilkinson married Ellen Boneparth, a retired FSO. In retirement, Mr. Wilkinson wrote and taught. His publications include monographs on Greek-Turkish rela- tions and the Cyprus dispute and two books on the United Nations, The Third Try: Can the U.N. Work? (with Alison Broinowski, Scribe Publications, Melbourne, 2005) and “ Our Last Best Hope”: Why the United Nations Stum- bles andWhat the United States Should Do About It (with Alison Broinowski, iUniverse, Inc., 2007). He was a visiting lecturer in politi- cal science at the University of Hawaii at Hilo from 1993 to 1994 and a mem- ber of the faculty of the Hellenic Insti- tute for Foreign and European Policy annual seminars of Halki, Greece, from 1995 to 1997. From 2007 to 2010, he taught a Model United Nations course with his wife, Ellen, at Roseland Uni- versity Prep in Santa Rosa. Following his retirement, the cou- ple settled in Santa Rosa, where he be- came involved in local politics. Mr. Wilkinson had just completed a book, Who Rules Santa Rosa and Why It Matters , and wrote a blog by the same name. His co-founding of Neighbor- hood Alliance and other forms of ac- tivism brought him the city’s Award for Community Service in 2008. “Jim was a force for positive change in our community — one with great wit, a ready smile and a glib pointed pen,” Mayor Susan Gorin wrote in an e-mail that notified many Santa Rosans of his death. Close friend, ally and for- mer councilman Steve Rabinowitsh calledWilkinson a community treasure. Mr. Wilkinson is survived by his wife, Ellen Boneparth, of Santa Rosa; two daughters from an earlier marriage, Pamela Wilkinson of New York City, and Hilary Wilkinson (and her hus- band, BarthGrant) of BelleMead, N.J.; a grandson, TheodoreWilkinson-Grant of Belle Mead; and a sister, Beth Cut- ting of Connecticut. ■ I N M E M O R Y Send your In Memory submission to journal@afsa.org .
