THE FOREIGN SERVICE JOURNAL | OCTOBER 2016 69 AFSA NEWS AFSAGoverning Board Meeting Aug. 3, 2016 Welcome: AFSA President Ambassador Barbara Stephenson welcomed new Governing Board member Keith Hanigan to his first meeting. Consent Agenda: The Governing Board approved the consent agenda items. These items were: (1) the July 6 Governing Board minutes, (2) the appointment of Jay Singh to the USAID Standing Committee, and (3) the ranking of six nominees to the Foreign Service Impasse Disputes Panel. Awards and Plaques: On a motion from AFSA Secre- tary and Governance Committee Chair Bill Haugh, the board confirmed the establishment of the Awards and Plaques Committee for the remainder of the 2015- 2017 term of office. In a related motion, the Governing Board approved a proposed bylaw amendment which would establish the Awards and Plaques Committee as a permanent standing committee pending AFSA membership approval in the next election. AFSA Award for Lifetime Contributions to Ameri- can Diplomacy: Governing Board members reviewed the criteria for selection of the recipient of the AFSA Award for Lifetime Contributions to American Diplo- macy. On a motion from State Vice President Angie Bryan, the Governing Board referred discussion to the Awards and Plaques Committee with the request that they prepare criteria to be approved by the Governing Board in September. n look into visiting the Chau- tauqua Institution.
