A brief but inclusive history of the international family planning movement contains essays on the U.S. Agency for International Develop- ment’s program by former senior agency officials Steven Sinding and Morrie Blumberg. Finally, there is a critical review of current population policy, with rec- ommendations for change. Donald J. Bogue is a professor of sociology at the University of Chicago and research associate of the Population Research Center there. Steven W.
