In the wee hours, the city is bustling with life, with vendors selling fruits, vegetables and baked goods. I wonder what time this woman must have gotten up to pick her fresh greens and corn and travel into the city, ready to sell her wares at the crack of dawn. n Beth Payne is a 20-year veteran of the Foreign Service and a member of the FSJ Editorial Board.
