BY CAROLE FENTON n SIGHNAGHI, GEORGIA Carole Fenton is a Foreign Service family member. She and her FSO husband, Tom, are posted in Bangkok. Their previous posts include Budapest and Khartoum. She took this photo with an Apple iPhone 6SE. W e had been experiencing wonderful weather during our trip to Georgia in late September 2021. When we reached the Kakheti wine region, however, our day in the distinctive town of Sigh- naghi became picturesque in a different way— with fog and mist creating an unexpectedly scenic backdrop. As we hiked uphill in the drizzle to visit a winery, we passed a villager headed the opposite way. This “slice of local life” warmed me even more than the delicious, mellow wines we tasted a few minutes later. n 98 MARCH 2022 | THE FOREIGN SERVICE JOURNAL LOCAL LENS
