Start Date/Time:

End Date/Time:

Description:

There are many names for them: Embassy Brat, Diplobrat, Third Culture Kid, Global Nomad, etc. But what does it really mean for a child to be part of a family that travels the world for the U.S. Foreign Service? How do these life experiences impact the child as they live them? And how does it impact them once grown up and no longer a dependent?  It can take years after someone has stopped living at post with their parents to understand what their experiences really mean. Join us as we explore this topic with a keynote address and panel discussion featuring Ms. Bert Curtis, Division Chief of FLO; a parent of a Foreign Service Kid; and of course, an Embassy Brat. Keynote Ms. Dorothy Davis grew up in four different countries and the U.S. From the time she started school until her senior year of high school, she was the first African American female at every school she attended, including The Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC. She often speaks about her experiences as a Foreign Service Kid and has spent her adult life discerning the meaning and effects of her childhood. Ms. Davis is the President of Dorothy Davis, Inc., an organization that builds bridges between people, cultures and business. This event costs $20 and includes a reception with finger food and drinks.
