The American Foreign Service Association invites you to the 2024 AFSA Awards Ceremony, dedicated to honoring the exceptional achievements, unwavering dedication, and outstanding contributions of individuals in the Foreign Service.
This year, we will proudly present 11 awards to 17 remarkable individuals, recognizing exemplary performance and the crucial role of constructive dissent.
Ambassador Marc Grossman has had a distinguished career in the foreign service, including key roles as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Director General of the Foreign Service, and Ambassador to Türkiye. Throughout his career, and in retirement, Ambassador Grossman has championed initiatives to enhance diplomatic readiness, improve personnel management, and strengthen the U.S. Foreign Service.
From 2006-2024, Patricia Hanigan Scroggs served as Howard University’s Director for Diplomatic Fellowships. In this role, she oversaw and implemented the State Department’s Rangel, Pickering, and other fellowship programs dedicated to recruiting diverse candidates for Foreign Service careers. Her own Foreign Service career included serving as Director of Regional and Security Policy for the East Asian and Pacific Bureau, as well as postings in Tokyo, Seoul, and Mazatlan.
In addition, we will present awards to the recipients of AFSA's Constructive Dissent awards, which honor Foreign Service members who have courageously worked to drive positive change within the system. We will also celebrate the recipients of our Exemplary Performance awards, who embody the professionalism, dedication, and volunteerism that define the spirit of the Foreign Service community. These individuals reflect the highest values of service and commitment to our nation's diplomacy.
Join us in celebrating your colleagues' extraordinary work. RSVP here before October 9 to secure your space at the ceremony.
