With profound gratitude and respect, AFSA acknowledges the sacrifice of our colleagues honored on the USAID Memorial Wall. Like USAID itself, their service and sacrifice to our nation and its ideals will never be forgotten. After the illegal dismantling of USAID, AFSA stepped forward to create this virtual tribute to those who lost their lives serving the cause of human advancement by carrying out the economic and humanitarian assistance programs of the United States. AFSA will work to ensure that their physical tribute on the USAID Memorial Wall is preserved for posterity at the U.S. Department of State.

The USAID Memorial Wall honors 108 Foreign Service officers, local staff, and contractors killed in the line of duty while working for the U.S. Agency for International Development or its predecessor agencies.

Originally installed with 69 names on May 17, 2005, in the USAID entrance lobby at the Ronald Reagan Building, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington D.C., it was removed in late April 2025 and temporarily displayed in the U.S. Department of State’s Harry S Truman Building’s C Street Lobby during the May 2, 2025, Foreign Affairs Day ceremony. It was then stored until being installed for permanent display in the State Department’s D Street Lobby on March 28, 2026. A photo of the memorial and details of its design can be viewed here.

The biographic sketches below describe each person honored, their service to our nation, and their sacrifice.
