Description:

AFSA is pleased to present “Volunteerism: How Can the Foreign Service Best Contribute?,” a webinar on Tuesday, February 28 from 1 to 2 p.m. ET.  In support of members who are interested in exploring meaningful volunteer work, AFSA invited Ms. Krish O’Mara Vignarajah, President and CEO of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, Mr. Ken Patterson, Director of  Grassroots Impact at Results (a non-partisan citizens’ advocacy organization devoted to finding long-term solutions to poverty), and Ms. Patricia McArdle, member of the Global Advisory Council for Solar Cookers International, to discuss how best Foreign Service personnel can contribute to the NGO sector as volunteers. Please click here to register via Zoom, and look out for a follow-up email shortly before the event that will include a link for the program and any accompanying materials.

Our panelists are in an excellent position to address this topic as they are well acquainted with the Foreign Service. Ms. Vignarajah was a Senior Advisor at the Department of State under both Secretary Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, Mr. Patterson was in the Peace Corps, and Ms. McArdle is a former Department of State Public Affairs Officer. There will be an opportunity to submit questions for the panel during the program.

This program is part of AFSA’s Next Stage series, which is designed to help retirees explore post-FS opportunities. While the content of the program will be geared towards retirees, active-duty members are welcome to attend. Note that AFSA records and posts presentations about one week after the event, so if you are unable to participate live, you will have access to the presentation later.

We look forward to seeing you virtually at the end of the month!
