The Folger Shakespeare Library on Capitol Hill was dedicated in 1932. It houses the largest collection of Shakespeareana on the planet. Who was the reserved, secretive couple who assembled this treasure and how did they do it? In Collecting Shakespeare, Dr. Stephen H. Grant recounts the American success story of Henry and Emily Folger of Brooklyn, a couple who were devoted to each other, in love with Shakespeare, and bitten by the collecting bug. A Foreign Service officer with USAID, Dr. Grant had long-term assignments in the field of education in Ivory Coast and Guinea, Egypt, Indonesia and El Salvador. Shifting largely from a diplomatic career to a writing life, Dr. Grant now serves as Senior Fellow at the Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training where he helps retired diplomats prepare their manuscripts for publication.
