Ambassador David Shinn has been teaching at the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George;Washington University since 2001. He served for 37 years in the Foreign Service with overseas assignments in Lebanon, Kenya, Tanzania, Mauritania, Cameroon, Sudan, an das ambassador to Burkina Faso and Ethiopia. He is the co-author of the Historical Dictionary of Ethiopia and China and Africa: A Century of Engagement and is the author of Hizmet in Africa: The Activities and Significance of the Gulen Movement. Ambassador Shinn will look at all aspects of the China-Africa relationship: China's interests in Africa, government-to-government ties, trade, aid, investment, soft power, security, and challenges and problems faced by China. He will include both North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa in his analysis. This event costs $25.
