Dr. Stephen O'Connell, appointed USAID's Chief Economist in early 2014, is central to USAID's current efforts to define how it will fulfill its declared mission of partnering to end extreme poverty. He provides expert advice to Agency leadership and staff on economic growth and guides the Agency on economics-based decision making. He advances the profile of economic analysis and economic expertise within the Agency and is responsible for keeping USAID's economists on the cutting edge of ideas in development economics and supporting their use of analytical tools best suited to the Agency's mission.
